solve conundrums or look at ghosts in a new light. Every creature presented in this book has its own history, personality, and powers. Some of the haunts that adventures will confront include the following:
Vlana Waldershen, a half-vistani ghost whose rage knows no bounds
The Ghost Cat, a monstrous being that draws tainted victims further onto the path of evil
Nikoiai Melentha, a child ghost who becomes what he hate most while protecting the defenseless
These are the Children of the Night. Children of the Night: Ghosts is the second book in a series that brings to unlife the creature types detailed in the best-selling Van Richten's Guides. Each volume offers biographies of distinct and monstrous personalities easily added to any game; short adventures featuring each nemesis, which can stand alone or form a mini-campaign; unique ways to fight each foe; and adventures hooks for using them in the future scenarios. For all character levels.
Product History Children of the Night: Ghosts (1997) was the second book in the Ravenloft Children of the Night series. It features thirteen unique ghosts in ascending order of difficulty and danger, and provides a short adventure and a detailed description of each ghost. Not Your Usual Project Pitch. The origin of the project is somewhat unusual in that the book was surreptitiously intended as a party fundraiser. According to author and designer Sean K. Reynolds, Children of the Night: Ghosts was one of several projects put together by TSR Creative Services staff for this purpose. The freelance fees authors received went to finance a private Saturday night industry party at Gen Con. The projects that funded these parties were generally a collection of short adventures or monsters, a manuscript easy for multiple authors and editors to produce. A Mix of Levels, A Mix of Authors. Organizing the ghosts by their difficulty was an inspired choice, as it lets DMs quickly thumb to challenges of the appropriate level for their game. The ingenuity and creativity of the scenarios is generally quite high. There are arguably no iconic stand-outs in the collection, and many of the most interesting gothic ones are laid to rest at the end of their adventure, but this is a fun book to read. It might inspire a number of side adventures using these ghosts as adversaries or plot hooks elsewhere. One Story's Origin. A humorous aside: Sean K. Reynolds' ghost story involved a boy who had witnessed a murder and suffered head trauma while escaping, which killed him. He returned as a ghost, unable to do anything but scream in fear and repeat the words 'blood,' 'wine,' and 'onions.' This message is the key to helping the heroes solve the murder. Reynolds recalls that the adventure was inspired by a college friend who as a child had been hit by a car and thrown into a wall. Upon waking, his friend could only say four words: 'blood,' 'onions,' and two curses. As Reynolds writes in his blog, 'The weird thing was that he didn't realize this at first, and saying only these words no matter what he tried to say really freaked him out as he heard himself speak. So when he was trying to say, 'What the hell? Why am I only saying onions and blood and stuff?' it came out as 'Blood! Onions! S---! F---! Onions!' Fortunately, this only lasted about 20 minutes, and he recovered fully.' About the Authors. The writers of this books referred to themselves as The Kargat: Anne Brown, Steven Brown, Dale Donovan, Miranda Horner, L.L. Hundal, Steve Miller, John D.
