to assist the actions of their characters and others on the team, or they can cause certain events. Through coordinated and cooperative card play, a group can defeat opponents that would otherwise be near impossible for the average person, allowing them to confront adversaries worthy of heroes. But the cards are a limited resource, and players must decide which scenes, and which actions of their characters within the scenes, really warrant card play. For the gamemasters, the cards serve as a tool to help them control the dramatic pace of conflict in a scene. Depending on the nature of the scene, the cards can indicate that fortune favors the heroes - or their adversaries. Gamemasters also can use the cards to give critical tasks even more tension by limiting which steps in the task may be performed.
